Dear Gundalow Company Community,
We lost our dear friend Frank Stewart on December 11th, 2025. Frank became involved during the exciting year of Piscataqua’s construction in 2011, and then sailed as educator/deckhand from our first season in 2012 through 2020. He taught thousands of students about navigation and human impacts to the estuary, and as resident Shantyman, we estimate Frank led the Codfish and Gundalow songs over 600 times. He brought a deep (and ever growing) knowledge of local history to public sails with engaging stories, and shared music with specialty “shanty sails” and performances with the Docent group and others.
Frank trained and befriended countless volunteers, and continued to volunteer and be a part of the gundalow family over the last five years. His paint-spattered work clothes and cheery voice are already greatly missed.
