Fall Homeschool Sail

Step aboard the Gundalow and head out on the Piscataqua River for an exciting sail designed just for homeschool families.  While aboard, participants will set the sail, steer the vessel, take part in learning stations and spend time connecting with the Piscataqua Maritime Region. This fall our Homeschool Sail will take place on Friday, Sept 16 from 2:00-4:15 in Great Bay.  The boat will leave from Adams Point in Durham for a 2 hour and 15 minute sail.  While aboard the Gundalow, we will test for water quality, do a plankton tow, learn some knots, and more! This week we welcome Kalle Matso aboard to discuss the Estuary, how it’s doing, and why we should care.  Your ticket includes a 2 hour sail and a talk and discussion about the state of our Estuary. Crew for a Day: Summer Camp

Join us for a day and become a junior member of the crew! Our crew for a day program is designed to give kids a taste of life on the Gundalow.  We will swab the decks, set the sail, steer, stand bow watch, tie some knots, and spend the day on the water.  Depending on the day sometimes our crew can be found towing for plankton, learning to navigate, or singing a sea chanty.  You can sign up for 1 day or join us for all 3! Tuesday Speaker Sail: Alexa Hilmer

Join us this Tuesday night for our speaker series. This week we are joined by Alexa Hilmer from the Shoals Marine Lab.  Alexa will be discussing the history of the Shoals Marine Lab during our 2 hour sunset sail from 6:00-8:00.  Tickets for this sail are a special $18 Alexa Hilmer currently acts as the External Relations Coordinator for Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML) on Appledore Island in the Isles of Shoals, and has worked in many other capacities for SML over the last 6 years. 5 Actions for our 5th Year of Sailing

We’re celebrating our fifth year of sailing by highlighting 5 actions we’re taking to preserve the marine environment and our maritime heritage of the Piscataqua Region.  The Gundalow Company works closely with our volunteers, passengers, crew and staff, and organizations from around the region to improve our watershed in a variety of ways. Great Bay Clean Up In June, the Gundalow joined PREP and the Stewardship Network of New England for the first ever Great Bay Clean Up.  We picked up over 360 pounds of trash from around Great Bay and plan to continue the effort throughout the summer.  Learn more here. Teacher Workshops on the Gundalow

Join the Gundalow for a one of a kind teacher workshop: Exploring our Watershed Our Professional Development programs are designed to bring teachers and educators together aboard the Gundalow for a chance to experience the Piscataqua River first hand. Dominique Salvacion has announced that she has been offered an exciting opportunity and a significant promotion to go work at Idexx, a large global corporation based in Westbrook, Maine. This Tuesday: July 12, 2016 join Jeff Barnum for a sail aboard the Gundalow and hear about the Challenges Facing Great Bay   Great Bay-Piscataqua Waterkeeper, through the Conservation Law Foundation working to address water quality issues throughout the Great Bay estuary. Jeff has a thorough knowledge of the estuary, having served as president of the Coastal Conservation Association of NH (CCA), where he focused on the health of our estuarine ecosystems.
