GUNDALOW ROLES Kathy is involved with Gundalow Company in a number of ways. For example, in 2019 she hosted a ‘Gundalow Gathering,’ a fundraiser in which guests dined in her home and were entertained with a special presentation. Additionally, Kathy is a donor and loves to volunteer as a crew member since 2013 aboard the gundalow Piscataqua’s educational sail outings.

PERSONAL DEETS
“No doubt I am completely a ‘water person,’ says Kathy, who resides in New Castle, N.H., since 2012, where she and her husband moved from Connecticut. A veteran educator, Kathy’s last full-time position was at Manhattanville College (Purchase, N.Y.), where she was professor and department chair for educational leadership. Prior roles included director of student teaching and coordinator of a university/school partnership; statewide director of a leadership center in Connecticut; principal of a day treatment program; consultant; and special education teacher. Kathy is a certified ‘life coach’ (https://kathyrockwoodlifecoach.com) and an avid outdoors person who loves to row, kayak, bike, watch birds, and cross-country ski, among other interests. She also is ‘hike leader’ for the local Appalachian Mountain Club, and is an enthusiastic smartphone nature photographer.

PERSONAL INTERESTS
“About two-and-one-half years ago a couple of my friends and I formed Seacoast Village Project, a nonprofit that has a mission of supporting older adults (50+) to ‘age in place’ with the support of trusted volunteers and professionals,” Kathy says. “In response to the COVID pandemic, we now offer non-contact support, such as grocery and pharmacy pickups, phone check-ins and some online social events.” Kathy encourages interested persons to visit the website www.seacoastvillageproject.org for details.

A FAVORITE FAMILIAR QUOTATION
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.” – Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)

WHY SHE LOVES GUNDALOW COMPANY
“The people who get involved with Gundalow Company are authentic and committed to supporting the Gundalow Company’s mission,” says Kathy. “We all care about preserving our beautiful Piscataqua estuary and its rich history. I am proud to be a part of this community.” Not surprisingly, Kathy is a member of the UNH Marine Docent Program, a volunteer-based effort that presents educational programs which provide a link between the University’s research community and the public. Docents teach marine science to students in schools and camps, adults in community groups and organizations, and at public events.
