Gundalow Company is launching a new annual event with a boat show, boat race, and more! The non-profit Gundalow Company is excited to announce the first annual Piscataqua Riverfest in partnership with Strawbery Banke. Held on June 1st, 2019, this new event combines the very best of Portsmouth’s waterfront: The Round Island Regatta boat race at Peirce Island; a traditional boat show exhibiting gorgeous boats at Strawbery Banke Museum; harbor sails on the gundalow Piscataqua; an evening gala with local food; the Changing Nature exhibit in the Sheafe Warehouse; maritime demonstrations for all ages; and special deals throughout the region. On Feb 6th we’re partnering with Portsmouth Community Radio to bring you the 97 minute film – Albatross.   Stepping outside the stylistic templates of traditional environmental or documentary film, ALBATROSS takes viewers on a lyrical guided tour of the deserted Midway Island and the thousands majestic birds that use the island for breeding to deliver a profound message of reverence and renewal.  Shot on the island in the remote North Pacific, filmmakers returned over several years to witness cycles of birth, life and death of these creatures in a multi-layered metaphor for our times.  The film is a magnificent […]

As the Gundalow Company grows so does our need for community involvement!  We already have many volunteers who help as deckhands, educators, rowers, interpreters, maintenance crew, and more, but continuing to meet our mission of protecting the Piscataqua Region’s maritime heritage and environment through education and action takes a village. The nonprofit Gundalow Company seeks a Development Coordinator to implement plans to significantly enhance memberships, sponsorships, and events. This year-round position works with office staff, boat crew, a board of directors and volunteers through a variety of activities related to our sailing programs and community events. Sea Shanty Sail Sept 27 – 4:30-6:30pm Only $20 Our 2018 Concert Cruise season is coming to an end, but all are invited to a Sea Shanty Sail lead by our deckhands Frank Stewart and Babs Benn. Join the crew of the Piscataqua in raising the sail and raising your voices, as we explore the history of sea shanties during the cruise. The non-profit Gundalow Company is seeking new volunteers to join our crew.  The Gundalow Company operates the vessel, PISCATAQUA and is committed to preserving the maritime heritage and marine environments of the Piscataqua Region through education and action. Each year PISCATAQUA takes over 8,000 students and adults out on the water to experience our rivers and waterfront, and we couldn’t do it without a dedicated group of community volunteers. “Human population will grow. Sea level is rising. How will we adapt?” That question is posed as visitors enter the Sheafe Warehouse these days, where a broad-ranging, highly interactive exhibit explores the intersection of 400 years of human activity with the once pristine Piscataqua region. “Changing Nature” has been mounted by the Gundalow Company, known for offering a “floating classroom” of maritime history and environmental stewardship during sails on its gundalow, the Piscataqua. The exhibit, said director Molly Bolster, is a way to expand that mission. We’re open most weekends and by appointment.  Visit our information page for exact times.

The Gundalow Company is excited to announce it is setting sail on the Gundalow PISCATAQUA for its 7th Season. Seacoast residents and visitors alike are invited aboard the Gundalow for public sails starting Memorial Day weekend including the much sought-after sunset sails most evenings. There are also special speaker sails on Tuesday evenings that invite local historians, scientists, and all-around interesting folks to chat about historical or cutting edge marine issues and topics.
