Rebecca O’Brien – Surfrider

Rebecca served on the Portsmouth Zero Waste Committee from 2010-2011 passionate about helping our community strive to limit our consumption of non-recyclable packaged goods and find commonsense solutions to reducing waste.  Portsmouth Zero Waste and the Gundalow Company are both coalition members of Surfrider Foundation’s Rise Above Plastics (RAP) initiative to: help mitigate the detrimental effects thin film, two-handled plastic carry-out bags are having on our communities, waterways, coastline and marine life.

In 2013, Rebecca became very involved in the Ban the Bag movement becoming an active RAP Committee member and, in 2015, became Secretary of the NH Chapter of Surfrider Foundation.  She serves on the NH Chapter’s Executive Committee along with Jamie McCallum, Chair, Jonathan Davis, Vice Chair, Nicole Davis, Treasurer, Dale Pariseau, Volunteer Coordinator, and Ned Dalzell, Hold Onto Your Butts Campaign Coordinator.

The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network.

Rebecca O’Brien is a Partner with Opus Advisors, LLC and brings 10+ years of experience in nonprofit development and management to her clients. She specializes in capital and endowment campaign management, constructing long-range development plans, development staff assessments, feasibility studies, and major gift work.Experiences range from working with organizations in the following sectors: arts and culture, religious entities, secondary and higher education, and international aid. She received a M.A. Honors & B.A. in International Relations, University of St Andrews, Scotland.

Rebecca is also a competitive road and trail runner and, owner of Get Out There Fitness NH, incorporating her three young daughters in all aspects of her training and outside play. She currently serves as Board Member on the Seacoast Women’s Giving Circle, volunteers for the Southeast Land Trust and the Seacoast Community School.
